General Grabbers AT2

Need some advice.......

I was looking to change the stock tyres, 235 60 16 to General Grabbers AT2 of 235 85 16.

Has anyone else went for the deeper tread? They will be fitted to a set of steel rims and not the standard alloys.

The car will be used 50/50 off road muddy terrain and road use.

Any comment welcome.

In the UK, the speedometer must never show an indicated speed less than the actual speed. For all actual speeds between 25 mph and 70 mph (or the vehicles' maximum speed if it is lower than this), the indicated speed must not exceed 110% of the actual speed, plus 6.25 mph.

For example, if the vehicle is actually travelling at 50 mph, the speedometer must not show more than 61.25 mph or less than 50 mph.

Using a speed error caculator, speedo readings at an actual 70mph will be 82mph, which is greater than the legal requirement of up to a 10% over-read. So the speedo may need recalibrating.

it will also have an effect on the gearing of the car so may affect acceleration & mpg.

I have General Grabber AT2 tyres on my RAV4 255-65-16 on Dotz crunch 16x8 alloys.

They have an increase of 11mm in diameter than the stock wheel and tire.

They are good on road and off road, fuel consumption increases though.
