Hi everyone

Im new here and looking for some help on my first little job which is to rid my little corolla of the screeching noise coming from the alternator belt. on inspection the belt was almost done and just broke in my hand. first difficulty encountered is the belt from the power steering pump which has to come off to install the new belt from alternator.. ive opened the lock nut and the pivot bolt and the adjusted the tension. the pump moves up and down but still can not get enough slack on the belt to remove it. im afraid to get the slack i need with a pry bar which is my gut instinct on everything that dont work first time !!  can anyone point me in the right direction or is there a how to guide i could follow. any help appreciated

thanks.,, by the way its a 1996 corolla 4e-fe petrol engine, auto gearbox, no aircon.

thanks

I'm not familiar with your particular engine, but if the power steering pump moves (but not enough)...sometimes you can get more movement by removing the pivot bolt altogether, or one of the mounting bolts.  As long as you have some movement it's usually pretty easy to get the bolt back in.
