Can the climate control (digital type) fit and work on the  standard heater control.ie electrical plugs and all work?

No, the climate control versions have electric bits.

Ah ok cheers Alan. Mines needs new heater control bulbs and at £6+ each I had seen a climate control unit for £13 and thought it would be a direct swap.
