2005 Yaris Key Advice

Hello,

I've tried doing a few searches and couldn't find the info I was after, but apologies if this has already been brought up before.

I have a 2005 Yaris with just one black RCL key and no other keys. I want to get a new key cut just so I have a spare. I'm working on getting a RCL key eventually, but I just need a simple non-RCL key for the time being from somewhere like Timpsons or wherever.

My question is; would this non-RCL key need coding to the immobiliser, or should it just work?

If it's from Timpsons or the like it will probably be a 'clone' where the (programmable) transponder is given the same code as the current key. Should just work as the car doesn't know which one it is.

If it is a type with a precoded (fixed) transponder it will need adding to the car system by a capable auto-electrician (or car thief  ).

I should make a copy myself too, just incase, how much is it from Timpsons roughly? Mines is for a mk2 Yaris 06

  • 2 weeks later...

A few years ago I got one cut for my old 306 from Timpsons, and if memory serves me correctly it was about £20-ish? That was just for a simple non-remote key.

I've had a little look and I think it should be straight-forward - if it does end up needing programming to the vehicle I think it's just that sequence where you open the door so many times, press the clutch down so many times, click your heels together etc. etc.
