Installing DRL (day running lights) in fog light area

Have a mk2 Yaris 06. Currently has fog light covers (no fogs) and would like to install DRLs in them.

I don't want any tacky Audi like strips or angel eyes. Just some standard circle lights. Not bothered about having fog lights, though you can buy half/half but quite expensive and want to keep costs to a minimum.

Cant make up my mind whether to go for standard bulbs or LEDs. Pros for standard bulb is easier to replace bulb and look standard and leds are too white, not keen on xenon bulbs to replace main beam due to short life and cost since having led wouldn't look right with standard yellow headlight. However leds have a very long life but if one is busted, would have to buy another pair plus fit whole lights again. Also need help with the types of wires/connections required. LEDs will require an off or half voltage feature when main beams are on, but not required if the DRL is standard bulb. Would definitely want an on/off switch.

Won't be doing it myself, i know someone who can do it. Haven't had chance to speak to him, any ideas of labour costs? I'm aware front bumper has to be taking off.

Oh and of course require a fog light cover with a hole, quite expensive at £25 for some plastic on eBay but guess I have no choice other than getting lucky at breakers yard. I'm also considering drilling into current covers but I doubt I'll do that, I'll sell them to recoup costs instead.

So any tips form anyone who's recently installed DRLs or links for lights, etc?

Cheers

Unless you plan to disconnect your current sidelights you don't need to dim the DRLs as they can/should be off when the side/head lights are on.

Likewise the colour issue would not be important as DRL and heads wouldn't/shouldn't be on at the same time.

If you do plan to use the DRLs as sidelights then they need to be dimmed regardless of bulb type or you will cause dazzle. Sidelights are typically 5W, filament DRLs would probably be 21W. (LED  DRLs are probably nearer 30-40W equivalent - they are very bright.)
