Hi, I would like to know the best RPM to shift in corolla vvti 1.6, what the best in terms of everyday driving and engine longevity??

I'd say between 2-3k would be best.

Same here, mostly 2300-2500 I think.

Bit of a revival, but for general day to day driving and trying to get 'decent' economy I'll shift at 2.3-2.5k

Oh come on, get real.

Revving a Toyota or any GOOD engine does not necessarily lessen its lifespan, and in all fairness you can only go so far on economy with an older, non stop start ECO engine.

My Tsport gets changed up across the range from 1,500 to 7,500 , has never had any work done other than yearly oil changes, runs like a sewing machine and has 180,000 miles on it.

It will happily pootle along in 6th at 30mph at 1,500 rpm or pull away from standstill in 1st, changing from 2nd to 4th to 6th without any complaint.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, so do what you feel, but as I live in Derbyshire with hills I suppose if we changed at 2k we wouldn't get up them, economy would be awful and the engine would always be under load.

Example.

You will wear out a bottom bracket on a mountain bike if you constantly run in high gears, use the gears, pedal fast and the strain loading is less!

When I took advanced driver training I was taught the best speeds were as follows.

1st to 10mph, 2nd to 20mph, third to 30 and so on. If on an incline then 15, 25, so on. Also any rapid progress was best made in third. I'm not saying its law but it's worked for me and I always get pretty good mpg.

I might add that in a thirty limit you can tottle along in top but should the loading on the engine start to increase you should change to appropriate gear.
