2016 Corolla, engine break in / first oil change

Things have changed quickly in the new car break in info. Asking for some guidance on info received. First is, 1st oil change. Owners manual says 10,000 miles.

Called dealership and talked to Service department. Informed engine is broke in at factory and is shipped with 100% synthetic oil. Big fan of full synthetic oil,

but what's up with  engine run and broke in at factory. Is this true? Tried the search engine, no luck.

Thanks

Tim

In Europe Toyota have fairly minimal break in (or running in) periods - an example: avoid sudden stops for the first 186 miles (300km), do not tow a trailer for the first 500 miles (800km), do not drive at extremely high speeds, avoid sudden acceleration, do not drive continuously in low gears and do not drive at constant speeds for the first 621 miles (1,000km).

In Europe Toyota have had 12 month/10,000 miles (whichever occurs first) service intervals for a number of years, unlike the US where you have 6 month/5,000 mile service intervals.

Think all Toyotas sold in Europe come factory filled with either 0W-20 (petrols & hybrids) or 5W-30 (diesels) synthetic oils.

Thanks for the reply. Any grapevine info on new engines being broken in at factory?? Sounds like Toyota has changed to same service for us as in Europe.

Back in 2009 when I was changing my Corolla hatchback for an Auris, I was offered the showroom model for collection at the end of the week. I wasn't happy with that as we were due to go on holiday on the Friday (300 mile journey each way, mainly motorway) and was told then that the engines were factory run in (broken in). Anyway I decided to wait for the colour we wanted, had a nice two weeks holidaying in a working lighthouse, and collected the new car when we got back.
