Hi guys, anyone experience in changing rav4 CVT transmission oil needs to take out the pan where there s a oil tube inside which limited the draining.

Anyone experienced with mechanic who able to do it without dismantling the oil pan?

Would it mean a new oil seal whenever this pan is dismantled?

If you unscrew the plug and let out the first small amount of oil you may find you can then remove the “straw” or level tube using an Allen key and let more oil drain out. You won’t get all of the oil out this way. When it comes to filling the box don’t just use the straw as a guaranteed level tool. The CVT fluid level is temperature dependant and it should be checked at 40 to 45 C (the working temp is 85 to 110 C). To find the oil temperature you need a scan tool and data link connector and temperature compensating tools. If you run the box short of oil you can get cavitation and whines, if you overfill you will seriously damage it. Either way it will be costly.

You may have seen the following link for information and caveats about changing Toyota CVT fluid, there’s other links on the web. http://www.pakwheels.com/forums/d-i-y-projects/168298-transmission-oil-change-toyota-vitz-belta-passo-toyota-k410-transmission
