Hi, first of all like to say hi to all members. I have recently purchased a 2012 avensis diesel and I have noticed 2 problems, the 1st problem I am having is that the master window swith in the drivers door isn't working I have checked the fuses Unset the bonnet and under the glove box but no luck any help would be very appreciated. 2nd problem I am having is that the car is giving very hot air from the air vents even when the temp is set to cold I don't know if both faults a related or not any help or input would be really appreciated, thanks

what exactly do you mean by the master window switch & what behaviour are you expecting from it?

As for the hot air if it's a 2012 unless it has done over 100k miles it's under warranty so maybe ask a Toyota dealer to have a look.

Master switch meaning the control for all 4 windows from the drivers door are not working,  also can't lock unlock  the doors from the same switch. Probably turn to toyota soon but was to thinking if it's only a minor thing that I can do myself it would be easier and stress free then booking it with toyota and not having a car for a couple if days

As far as I'm aware you have two switches - one switch, which if depressed will disable the passenger windows, and one switch which will lock/unlock the doors.

Not one switch that does both operations.

Does your profile need updating from the 2003 Avensis to the 2012 Avensis?

There are 4 window switches on the drivers door & 1 switch at the front which locks out/enables the window switches on the 3 non-driver doors. You can't control all 4 windows from 1 switch.

In addition there is a door lock/unlock switch between these (which should control all doors).

Hi illy,

You should have two switches a window lock switch that allows you lo lock all passenger windows, driver's window still opens with this depressed and a door lock switch that locks all doors when depressed, you can also set it to lock automatically. With manual drive it locks above 12MPH, with automatic it locks when you select the lever out of "P". The four switches behind them are for controlling each window individually.

If still under warranty take it to Toyota to get the hot air problem fixed.

Sorry for the confusion there are 4 window switches 1 door lock unlock switch and 1 window lock switch(for all the passengers lock). None of the above mentioned switches work , I have checked all the fuses under the bonnet and under the glove compartment and no joy

Hi illy

Not saying it is this, but when my Carina was in the garage, to replace a wing after an accident, the mechanic forgot to fit the connector under the door switches, and that gave the same symptoms you have. Has it had a repair before you bought it?

Did you buy the car privately or from a business? If the latter run it by them first.

if none are working & the car is under warranty> Toyota dealer.

I watched this thread, and get the impression that illy does not want to remove the door card and access the connections to the switches. A few years back, I had did my speaker upgrade on my Mk1, I forgot to plug the master control back on installation so nothing worked. Luckily the master control could be lifted from the armrest without removal of the door card, and the connection made. That was for the Mk1 and the the Mk3 might be different to access, but the connection is the same.

The heater ventilation flaps are controlled by motors, so every control are electronic. Again something may not be connected.

I have the impression that the car may have had some work done on the car, before illy took ownership.

illy may be doing the correct thing in taking the car to the dealer, even if the car was bought privately. If he bought it from a trade seller then he should deal with them, as mentioned by others.

Gents thanks for all your input,  the only thing i have had done last week was got the front bumper sprayed due to a very minor straches I don't know if he removed the bumper to spray but the only plugs I see him removing would be the fog lights plugs to take front bumper off  but will double check that with the bodywork guy before taking car into the dealers

illy, I will put you straight on the door switch at least. The person repairing the bumper should have nothing to with what we have been discussing - master switch not working.

Recap. Within the armrest of the drivers door, below the switches is the multi-connector. The hard bit is to get access to check and if necessary reconnect the multi!

Levering the control from the front only. There is a tag (shown later) at the rear of the master control.

The master control pops up.

The multi-plug to the master control. Check this is securely plugged in.

The rear of the master control showing the tag. Do not lever as this will break the tag! I was aware of this.

I decided to check the access myself and confirm it is the same as previous cars. It is better to demonstrate than try and explain something so simple!
