Hi,

I have T180 2.2 D4D (2007)and I had an issue with the car smoking uncontrollably and after many trials and errors I have discovered that the problem is the PCV valve, which is faulty. I went to Toyota dealership to get the part but they are useless and say there is no such thing as PCV valve. I showed him the part of the engine where it  was fitted and they said they will send me picture and after receiving several pictures, I told them that the part of the engine where it was fitted but had no part number for it in the pictures. So they asked their technician and he said that PCV valve is part of the top cover (part number 11201) and it is £423.38. How useless!

I searched the USA websites and they all list PCV valves with full part-numbers but they do not have Avensis models. So I tried to look for RAV4 or Lexus for similar engines. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have diesel engines in those models. Does anyone know the correct part number for PCV valve for T180?

have you looked on Japan parts e.g. http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/eu/2006/avensis/adt251r-alfqxw/3_273550_144_352W/tool-engine-fuel (I've guessed on input, you can use VIN)? If that doesn't help try PartsKing or Devon Aygo.

I was the same dealer didn't know either it's not a pcv as such.its a ccv apparently the top of crankcase just vents via the turbo/fresh air inlet from airfilter.the pcv is either spring loaded or a ball bearing that opens and closes.i believe ours just stays open.though mines is just a 1cd-ftv 116bhp engine.

Have you tried to clean throttle;air intake and egr valve?

Thank you Heidfirst for the link, which is very useful, but they also do not link the PCV valve. They did list the "Ventilation hose" as a separate category but where it fitted to engine, they did not list it. I tried the top of engine block but it is not listed there either.

Thank you Frankie for your insight on this. What is CCV? But I can tell you that the hose that comes out from top (right) of the engine block and connects to the middle of Air intake hose from air filter, has oil all over it. Ever since I removed this hose from the air intake and blocked the air intake where that has used to go into to prevent air leak, I have no issues with smoke at all. The car is running without any excess smoke now. Faulty PCV is the main cause listed on many sites for smoking issues because if the PCV valve is stuck OPEN then it is constantly bringing oil vapours due to vacuum there into the air intake, which then goes into engine for combustion. They say that because the fuel mixture also has engine oil vapours so there is smoke. But I am concerned that if PCV is open all the time then it may be causing issues within the engine. What are your thoughts?

Closed crankcase ventilation  (ccv)

I'm trying to find a site I was on with the same problem as yours.the 2003 petrol avensis I had used a pcv and was serviceable as I'd taking mine out and cleaned it.it was screwed into crankcase cover.you can fit an oil catch can to prevent the oil being sucked up by the turbo/intake.ive pics on here of my diesel avensis somewhere of mine.i cleaned all my hoses and throttle and air intake it was filthy crude oil in it.
