Cigarette lighter

Just got my first Toyota avensis and very happy with it the cigarette lighter works but phone charger or portable DVD player won't work does anyone know why and if so how to sort it out many thanks paul

I found the cig lighter not the best fit for accessory socket items

some chargers will power up with a push and a twist but will vibrate out again pretty soon after driving

 

I actually piggy backed an accessory socket proffesionaly behind the dash to power my dash cam, by that I mean not a hack job, I soldered and heatshrunk connections and checked wiring gauge for suitable max current as I don't want short or overload = potential fire or pita circuits blowing fuses

this kept it an ignition feed to power on and off camera as needed

you could piggy back a 4 gang accessory socket or whatever  providing you do not go crazy overloading circuit but you have a good scope to play regarding lighter socket
