Parking sensor not working

I just bough a -06 Corolla Verso with parking sensors in the back. However, it doesn't do anything. No beeps when switching to reverse. I have located the switch in the back, but it was already in ON position, at least I presume it's ON when the red side of the button is pressed down. When backing up the light turns on, so the fuse is probably ok?

Any suggestions what might be the problem?

 

Extra question: What is the small button on the right in this image?

You may have to remove the parking sensors and test them individually for continuity and resistance to find the faulty one(s).

I've got no idea what that "switch" is in the photo.
