My Rav needs its third engine on 81000 miles

Hi everyone please can you help me? My RAV4 T180 was registered in September 2007, in November 2011 it had done 42000 miles and needed it's engine replaced due to a known problem. My car has now done 81000 miles and needs replacing again with the same problem. I believe that the engine that was replaced wasn't reconditioned to their new standards because the head gasket needed replacing in May 2013 18 months after the engine was replaced. I don't think I should be out of pocket by paying for this as I feel that an engine shouldn't need replacing every 40000 miles when it gets serviced and maintained by Toyota every year. Please can someone give me advice on what I can do.

Thank you

Did you buy it new? If not was mileage correct? Contact trading standards and AA or RAC if a member for advice. Regards.

Hello Emma - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Toyota covered the head gasket issues on the AD series engines for a period up to 7 years or 111,846 miles, whichever occurs first, from first registration. Coverage was provided on a case by case basis. Unfortunately your car is outside the coverage period based on age.

You can ask your Toyota dealer to approach Toyota GB to ask about a goodwill contribution towards the cost of repairs, but be aware that Toyota aren't legally obliged to provide a goodwill contribution, and a 'contribution' doesn't mean they will meet the full cost of repairs.
