Should I do the service every year even on very low mileage

Recommended Posts

1) Brought my second hand AYGO at a dealer Toyota on September last year, but still on a very low mileage. Should I keep to do service on time every year?

2) Can I get the service done on my nearest Toyota ? How much is it?

3) Do you have "collect and delivery " service ? Does it include on the price of your service?

Look forward to hearing from you soon. Many Thanks!

Every car has service intervals. On the Aygo I think it's every 10,000 miles or every year. Which ever comes first. Regardless whether your car has only done 2,000 miles in the year, the oil still degrades and the filters can perish etc.

I have a 107 which is the same as the Aygo and I've always done the servicing on it myself since new. It's a simple car to service, so for a normal service you'd expect to pay about £99 at an independent. Toyota Dealers will be more expensive, but will use proper Toyota parts.

Some garages offer a collection service, you would need to ring your nearest dealer and ask them if they do it. However if you do this you may be confined as to what day and time they will be able to fit your car in for a service.

Think it depends how old your Aygo is, whether it has any of the new car warranty remaining (ie the 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty) or an extended warranty, etc.

Service intervals will be either 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first. It depends how old the car is as to whether it needs an intermediate service or full service.

How old is the car, how many miles has it done in total, and how many miles have you done since purchasing it? Does it have any warranty? Presumably the Toyota dealer you bought the car from would have serviced it before you had the car - can you confirm this?

Where do you live, Winnie? All the below will be on the assumption that you are in the UK but if you are not then things may/will be different.

1) If you bought it from a Toyota dealer I presume that it will have had at least a 1 year warranty from them when you bought it? In that case, I would say, yes. Also, if you are considering getting the Toyota Extended Warranty (available up until the car is 10) then you will have to get it serviced at a Toyota dealer to keep that valid.

2) Yes, your nearest Toyota dealer can service it. Toyota have just revised their fixed price servicing costs & introduced a new scheme for older (5>) cars. https://www.toyota.co.uk/caring-for-your-toyota/service-and-maintenance/car-servicing.json N.B. there are additional items like brake fluid change or pollen filter that are not included in those prices & may be needed.

3) My local Toyota dealers offer this & it is free but check whether yours do.

Its essential to service the car every twelve months, they don't have to do exactly the same amount of tasks every time, like for example I had a 10k service done last year and the brake fluid wasn't changed, this time it was a 20k service so the brake fluid was changed.

Most dealers do pick up and drop off and I recommend that your nearest Toyota to service it especially if you consider getting a warranty.

you can go over the 12 months service interval by no more than 28 days

or go over the annual milage by no more than 500 miles whichever comes first,

i have done exactly this with my car,as my service date is the 28th of April ,

but i have only covered 7000 miles since the last service

i am now booked in on the 25th of May and my 3yr warranty still runs.

so dont feel you need to have your car serviced exactly 12 months later

My Pug 106 ran for 6 years, 30ish thousand miles without a service!

When it went to scrap it was nothing to do with the engine, the engine was still sound!!! (actually, probably the only thing still good on it)

So the actual answer is probably no you don't "have" to have it serviced!

HOWEVER

If you intend to sell or trade the car when you are finished with it then documentated servicing is near essential! If you intend to keep the car, some sort of servicing is highly advised to extend the vehicles service life.

As previously stated by others, if nothing else, do the oil and associated filter, as these degrade and clog respectively, potentially resulting in either a catastrophic failure or shortened service life. It really is a cheap, easy and quick job to do on nearly any car. Or you can go the independent or dealer route.

My Aygo is going independent!

(ps the pug cost me £500 when I got it, and between £100-300 a year for MOT work, so maintenance was not a priority and it was never intended to last anywhere near as long as it did)

;-D
