cleaning the windscreen

No matter what I use to clean the glass, there is always a rain pattern left which shows up when the glass is wet and running the finger on the glass it does not feel smooth.

Is there a product other than the regular car glass cleaner (which I have already tried) and toothpaste (!) which can lift this layer of contamination/ dirt from the glass without scratching it?

polish or glass sealant are not suitable as they are used on a clean glass

Could try white vinegar - about 50p per bottle from Tesco
