Hi all,

Put fan on then air con on and there was a fishy type of smell coming from air vents . Thought it was becauce not used for a long while .went to garge and got petrol, then on way back home it smelled a bit more like burning . Then a lot of smoke came out of vents, not steam or mist but smoke. Turned fan of then on again with aircon of and still smoke and fan had a slight rattle about it .have not ran it since as i dont want to set it on fire , but has this happened to anyone else on here ,and is fan motor hard to change .

Thanks for any help

Colin

The fan is located behind the glovebox - undo the damper/piston thing on the left hand side of the glove compartment by undoing one screw with a crosshead screw driver, squeeze the sides in and eventually you'll see where it's catching and you'll free the glove compartment so it drops down.

The fan unit is right there with the pollen filter housing above it. Remove the pollen filter to feel if there's anything in the fan which is beneath the pollen filter.

As for replacement, I can't help as I haven't changed one.

When last have changed the pollen/cabin filter? There could be all sort of rubbish and dead bits. Also check area for any leaks and blockages.

The smell would be the aircon?do you use it constantly if not then bacteria builds up inside the fan housing, you need one of these.. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverhook-SGAC2-Air-Con-Bomb-Cleaner/dp/B007C6Q6XA/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1463769057&sr=1-1&keywords=air-con+bomb
