B-Mode: Noises...

Going down a hill in B-mode slows my car down :)

But after a while (still coasting downhill ) or is it coz now it's doing 50mpg(?) It feels like proper engine-braking in a normal car - but also a sort of resistance noise/grind/slight-rumble?

Is this normal?

So far i haven't gone down a long step hill yet, I'm sure somewhere I read that it wasn't to be used frequently as it causes more wear and tear.

Just for going down mountain roads where you either be at risk of overcharging the Battery or suffering brake fade from using brakes for long periods.

Cool

Battery was fully charged

No brake used til bottom of hill...

It spins up the petrol engine to give more compression drag, so that maybe what you heard.

Tried B for the first time today, did notice a big difference from just taking my foot off the accelerator. Didn't notice any noises that I haven't heard before.

Tried B again today, I would describe it as a slightly louder version of using the brakes in drive. So far not driven down any really step hill to warrant using it for longer than a few seconds.

Thanks Anthony

Plenty of steep long hills where I am to warrant use of B mode for a min or two!

Then again I am in wet, windy and HILLY Yorkshire land

Hi Wayne,

Have you got any further with this yet?

I have used B in both my Auris and my mothers Yaris now, both of them sound the same. I would describe it as a quieter engine sound, that i can just hear.

I take it yours is much louder?

Thanks Anthony :)

I just left it as it is and not pursue further

It's difficult to say as I may say it's clearly audible And scraping ...and u may say it's quiet

But thanks again for looking into it :)

Toyota just took away my car (free pick-up/dropoff from home ) for MOT/Service

Spoke to the guy, seems very knowledgeable

SayS what I felt in B-mode for that period of a couple of mins is normal...

I said it was like a bicycle brake 1/2 stuck - he agrees ...

You could always go and have a test drive in a new car and  compare it to yours

Hopefully they will put your mind at ease when they drop off the car.

Do you have an RPM dial? I wonder what RPM the engine is getting to in B-mode; Engines 'accelerating' at high RPM with no fuel going in them do sound a bit weird!

Maybe we should hold a compo for HSD owners - Who can record the sound of their car going down a hill in B-mode for the longest?

No RPM dial in my Hybrid!

Shame I sold my Go-Pro sports camera:sad:

Else I could have stuck it on my bonnet and record the sound AND video

I'll see what sound the dash cam picks up, when I turn the radio off.

The only sounds i would be making is a few descriptive words about the driver in front of me

Hope it's not another hybrid in front just cruising trying to hit his/her personal best of 99.99999999mpg

That would be me as other hybrid drivers round here drive like there is no tomorrow. More likely the ditherers in front of me, on my way home from work.

I'm glad it's not just me... I don't know when this changed but lately HSD and Aygo owners have turned into maniacs!! Even on the motorway they'll fly past me like I'm not moving!!

(Seriously, what's up with that?? Aygos only have 1 litre engines!!)

The best bit is you catch up those aygo's when they get to the big hills ;-)

Compared to the old verso that I had, this one will certainly beat it off the mark.
