Gearbox clunk?

Hello,

i am a new member though I have owned and driven Toyotas for many years.  Last week I bought a 2009 Auris 1.6 TR with the MMT Multimode gearbox.  It drives lovely apart from the annoying habit of going into 1st gear when you want it to stay in 2nd.  That I can live with though, what my problem is as I have never ever driven a car with this gearbox before and there is a loutish clunk coming from what sounds like the rear of the car when it goes into 3rd gear and that is in both E and M modes.  It also makes the same sound coming from 4th to 3rd in both modes.     All the other changes are smooth and noise free?

As my car is under warranty I first want to find out if this is a normal thing for this type of gearbox? as I understand it is not really an automatic as if doesn't have a torque converter.    Or do I need to take it to a Toyota garage and have it assessed and if there is a fault claim against the warranty.

I would appreciate any information on my problem please, thank you in anticipation.

Regards

We owned a 2011 1.6 valvematic with the MMT gearbox.  There was no clunk in any gears, although whatever method it uses to determine appropriate gears leaves a lot to be desired.  Take it back and have it looked at under your warranty.  It's a manual gearbox with an automatic clutch and they can be expensive to repair if they go wrong.
