Temp light red on turnover - Yaris 2002 D4-D

hi guys

my trusty 02 yaris has just started doing something slightly different recently and I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it.

On turnover, the engine temp light used to come on green and then go off after the engine had got up to temperature. now it has started going red when I turn it over and get the coil light off, it stays red for a few seconds then goes to the usual blue until the engine gets to temp.

Should i be concerned that it is going red now for a few seconds. It hasn't done this before. All fluids are up to scratch and the car isn't displaying any other issues, the manual wasn't much help either.

Any advice welcome!

Might just be a sensor glitch; The red light is supposed to indicate high engine temp, while the blue/green one is a cold engine.

Double check the coolant is topped up and okay.

Does it do it every time you start, or only when the car is cold? (Or hot??)

If it's easy to reproduce, might be worth getting your mechanic to check it out tho' - They can plug in a diagnostic unit and fire up the car to see what's going on.

Yeah it's a strange one as it's only red for a few seconds, then goes back to it's usual green.

Coolant is fully topped up. I'll double check whether it does it everytime or just when cold, though from memory, it's only when cold.

Thanks

Sounds like an earth fault to me, or perhaps one of your glowplugs has gone US.
