Hello,

Some sheet metal which is protecting my exhaust/muffler has come loose at one end. The fastener has come out of the rubber mount.  I've never come across this type of fastening before and I'm not sure when I need to do. Space is tight under the car (I have some small ramps), so I didn't play with it really. I thought I'd take a picture and hoped that it would be obvious to some other people.

Can anyone advise on what I need to do?  How does the bolt/rubber mount system work, do I need a new fastener or has this one just come loose?  I think my picture might show up 1/4 turn rotated.

thanks

Doug

Not familliar with this setup but it looks like the nut part was originally crimped into the bracket then the bolt would screw into it. Now that the nut has broken free of the crimp I'd think a new bracket and bolt would be called for. I've seen these heat shield attachments were just steel pins attached to the floor/chassis of the car and the heat shield attached with spire nuts which sort of cut their own thread onto the pins. There's very little weight to these shields so they don't generally require a full threaded bracket to hold them - biggest problem is usually corrosion around the hole eventually becoming so large that the shield falls off.

Two choices, rip the heat shield off and throw it away or fit a new mounting (probly Mr T part).
