Hi David,

Do you use the air con regularly?

If not the gas settles and escapes from the seals and that's why people are often told to turn it on for a minutes every couple days.

Mine is due for a regas as its nearly time for its next service.

Ideally one should use the air con at least once a week throughout the year in order to keep the seals lubricated. One doesn't have to use it on cold - coupled with the heater it makes for faster demisting, especially in the winter.

The Toyota charge is £40. If you want the system cleansed as well that ups the cost to £80. May be able to get a re-gas done cheaper elsewhere, but check they test for leaks first.

I was quoted £80 for the full air con service. Knowing my luck the previous owner was too tight. If you would have seen the filter from the last car, I am sure you would have laughed, it looked like the car had turned into a garden vac.

My first Yaris was like that... first time I changed the cabin filter I nearly shat myself because it looked like it had been colonised by wasps! It was almost completely packed with them!Thankfully they were all dead, but to this day I still wonder how the heck so many of them got in there!

In mine it lives behind the glovebox; You have to open it and squeeze the sides to unlatch it so you can take the whole thing out, then there's a white rectangular plastic thing the filter slots into.
