I thought every CD player can play standard CD audio disks, and CDR write only disks which are also audio. MP3 and WMA data are not supported. CD rewrite disks may not be supported, regardless of the format.

So long as the CD mechanism is not broken try and play a CD.

Confirm the model of CD radio in the car. It may have a CD changer port where you can add a USB/SD/MP3/AUX adaptor.

Something is confused with this question.

If you want to play an audio disk from your PC, that's either a CD filled with MP3/WMA/FLAC files or a CD that has been burned by iTunes with a set of tracks. The latter is treated as a normal audio CD as software has done some magic tricks and turned your playlist in to a proper audio CD. The former requires a head unit capable of supporting those files.

However, one thing to note in regards to having software like iTunes create an audio CD for you is that some CD players won't read it but this only happens with older equipment from the late 80's/early-mid 90's. I found this out the hard way when my Dad died and we wanted to play a song when we walked the coffin out of the church but the priest said the CD wouldn't work. Turned out they hadn't upgraded their CD system since it was installed in 1988!

But a 2002 Toyota should be sound, so I think you'll be fine.

Yes it should play back CD's created in the same format as audio CD's. You can make a direct copy of the original CD - copy right permitting for your own use. I did state that in my first answer - CD's created in "audio" format. Just use copy CD function.

I have also mentioned that you may be able to add an adaptor and play MP3 files via USB memory stick or SD cards. This is the route I went on my old Mk1 which came with a Sony as standard. I also had copies of my own CD's in the changer, until I changed cars. Now also on USB memory and a couple CD's written in WMA/MP3 in my current car.

i think i know what you mean when you talked about the adapter, you talking about the one you put in the cigarrete lighter? because if yes, it's not that good, it picks a lot of radio waves, and the music sounds ditorted, if you are talking about something else then tell me more about it and give me a link....the only way i see is converting some audio files to a CD and check if it works....THANKS for the help

I had an old Peugeot 306 with a crappy Blaupunkt head unit from about 1999 and it read the CD's I used to burn off with iTunes. Just make sure it's all standard in terms of bit rates and you should be fine.

The adaptor I am talking about plugs into the rear of the stereo. I did a tutorial in how to add the adaptor which is on the right of the page. I am not interested in the FM adaptor as they are inferior and you cannot make track changes like the ones I use through the steering controls. Your car should use type 2 (5+7) CD changer port.

Here is an example of the type of adaptor and the type of ports that should be at the rear of the stereo: http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=35

Here is one you can buy for your particular car: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-SD-AUX-MP3-Adaptor-for-TOYOTA-Avensis-T22-98-03-Celica-98-03-Corolla-up-/191759959753?hash=item2ca5c8c6c9:g:vWUAAOSwDuJW0x3m

The biggest advantage is the speed of transferring the music onto a memory stick, plus the capacity.

Anyway try copying a music CD on a CDr.

Even if the car's audio system doesn't read CDs, what stops you from changing it? It is not so expensive and difficult, you can change it with the help of Youtube videos. You must change it with a system that allows you to use an AUX cable and a USB. It's kind of hard to find CDs with the music you like but it's way easier to find and download it from the internet. Youtube is the main place where we find music and it's also easy to download it with Youtube to mp3 download sites. After that, all you have to do is copy-paste it on your device.

Hi John. I use Real player to download from YouTube and convert to MP3 mixes. Then stick the music on to memory sticks. Also convertt music from CD to into MP3 too.
If you read my other posts, I have been using USB/AUX/Bluetooth adapter via the CD changer port at the rear. It started in the late 2000's when I own Mk1 Avensis which had a Sony double din that was factory fit in a few Toyota models. I added Connects2 USB adapter between the CD changer and head unit. Later I added the Novero (similar to Parrot) for bluetooth.
Now I am in my current car and doing the same but in one box adapter. Just plug and play with a bit of trim work to fit the cables and mic.

My current adapter Wefa, is great and I can do nearly everything with voice commands, steering controls or the occasional screen touch (one touch when mounted).
CD's are old hat these days. Before MP3 audio, I had lots of CD's in the car. Now if I turned all the music I have on the memory stick to CD's, the car (Avensis) boot would be half full!
My car looks stock overall. Only buying a 3rd party audio unit will get the features you want, but it costs more! Anyway there are options.
