Yaris 2012 front strut replacement

After a little ding the drivers side front strut needs replaced on a 2012 model. I have found plenty advice on here regarding older models but the 2012 is a little different.

Wheel side everything is ok, I can get it all dismantled easy enough but I am having a little problem top side. The strut is round on top and is held in place with one central bolt. I know I will have to take the wiper and trim off to get to the bolt, there is a little room but just not enough clearance, but I am wondering what to do next.

If I take off the single bolt wont the spring decompress with a bang? Usually you take the strut out and use a compression tool to hold the spring until everything is changed over but as all I can see is a single central bolt that holds it all in place what advice do you experts have.

Many thanks.
