Is it at all possible to change the terrible 'female' voice command on my 12 plate Avensis Touch 2 Go ?

You shouldn't have Touch 2 with Go if it's an original fit on a 12. It should be Touch & Go.

& no, afaik you can't change the voice.

That female voice is ghastly. Surely Toyota Touch & Go can get a grip & issue free voice updates like TomTom do. I just bought a 2016 Auris and disappointed to find this one irritating voice issuing navigation instructions. In desperate hope and belief in Toyata's future I tried to update the T&G software via internet connectivity using my iPhone6 on ThreeUK network but now find I have to upgrade to the 'personal hotspot tethering' add on. This takes one month to activate and increased my phone bill by £3 per month. Can't understand why as my iPhone is in range of my home Wifi. Have I been mislead by the Toyota sales guy?

if you just bought the Auris the dealer should have delivered it with the latest software & mapping, it's meant to be part of the PDI iirc ... I would get them to do it.

I've never tried to update the software directly via internet always downloading to PC then using USB stick out to the car, however, I do know that at least on the original T&G, you do require tethering enabled on the phone for "connected services". The system is connecting to your phone via bluetooth & not to your wifi directly. You will also need tethering  if you want to use "connected services" away from your house, e.g. on a journey.

I guess that you are on an Essential plan as afaik Advanced should have a hotspot allowance as standard & it's not available on PAYG with 3? Seems odd that it takes 30 days to activate, can't you do it through My3?

I wish it was done at the PDI but its not.  All it  I need is a simple zip file. Dealer wants me go back to get it done for free but its a 160 mile round trip. Toyota want £109 to download it even for a new car.  How can hardware carry a 5 years warranty and not software? Why can you not log on to Toyota give the code to down load (as with the Free Europe Map) and get the download. I have a 3 year service plan a car that's less than a week old and 25 years experience as a computer engineer.  I could understand it when it was a DVD as admin costs but now there is no overhead. I have lifetime access to Garmin via Garmin Express and know just how long it takes to update. What is the revision of the Europe Map does that overwrite the UK one? Its a case of "the computer says no" and " I am not a computer expert" when you phone Toyota GB.

It's the dealer's responsibility & afaik it should have been done as part of the PDI. If they are offering to do it for free then you perhaps could ask them  for something for your time/fuel but that would be it.

If you are not prepared to travel & your car is literally a 1 week old car I suggest that you contact Toyota CS directly & explain the situation - they are generally very good but your contract is with the dealer, not them & the dealer has offered to do it for free ...

If you are a computer engineer then you should know that software rarely has guarantees, in fact often has you click OK to terms that absolve them of responsibility ...

Also, remember that the ICE/satnav hardware/software is a 3rd party solution provided to Toyota.

I agree it should have been done on the PDI but it was not. There is Toyota Map APP for phones for the dealer to do it but customers do not have access keys. The download .zip file is also available onlime from the e-store at a charge £109 , but nobody can send me the .zip. Toyota CS are no help I was directed to them by the dealer and back to the dealer by them.  How hard can it be to copy a .zip to a pc and attach it to an Email? All it needs is someone to take ownership of a problem and resolve it not try to bat it off elsewhere.

l have lifetime updates for my Garmin, who may be the the third party supplier and they have excellent support as they act on their own initiative and rely on customers to report errors. I update my Garmin twice a year use a pc to plan and download preferred routes.   I have no doubt I will find a way to do the same with Touch2.

I have no doubt my local dealer will carry out an update when the car goes in for a recall  (I would be surprised if it does not have one sometime, the last four have). I am happy they resolve problems quckly via the OBD. It would just be nice if Toyota Customer Service served the customer not Toyota.

It's not quite so easy as that - you also need an activation code which is linked to your particular car/unit (presumably their estore does this automatically). I have never heard of a Toyota Map App for phones - I can't see how that works. For my original T&G system I use Toyota Toolbox.

Harman are the hardware oem & afaik the mapping is from Here.

Toyota are proactive about recalls, even for very minor potential issues so yes, it probably will have a recall. Less sure that your local dealer will do an update as they didn't supply the car..

However, afaik new (supplied since early 2016) Touch with Go 2 units should have 3 years of free updates. Hopefully someone who has a new T with G 2 & has done it will reply but I believe that it looks like it is chargeable right up to the end where you get it free. See
