Hey there, just want to make myself known. Just bought a 1.8 vvt-i avensis t250. Last car was the 2.0 D4D Auris, so a bit of a difference. Can anyone recommend any mods to do? I have already swapped out the stereo, am looking at fitting HIDs or LEDs to the interior and exterior lights, will be changing the air filter as it is registered that way on insurance (made it £600 cheaper) and maybe exhaust. Does anyone know if this car can be remapped? would like it to be a bit of a sleeper.

Hi Aidan. I have responded on your last post when you hydro-locked the Auris. Sorry to here about your car being written off.  The stereo mods will be similar to the Auris.

Leave the air-filter alone, since the weather has been so on-off with rain.

The lights are a matter of taste. Toyota ECU's are locked down, and even if you could map it, there is not much gain from a normal aspirated engine.

You may have read this:

If the brakes look well used, get them done first. A reply to the above post said to get the brakes and suspension sorted before you worry about power.

At least you got a later Mk2 with 1ZZ engine. The earlier cars had oil burning issues which were fixed by 2005.

Look forward to your posts (except puddles and trees).

As konrad has said .the air filter you say your changing is it a performance 1? If so there will be no gain in this just the sound.you would need to spend ££££ on trying to make this car quick. Best thing to do is just make it look good.

I don't want to make it quick as such, just a bit quicker ;). I have changed the air filter at the moment and it has made it sound a bit different. Not too fussed about gains, will probably do exhaust at some point too, was going to do coilovers but will just save up for bags. Any other ideas on making it look good? Was thinking 18s with low profile tyres and as I said bags and lights. But can't think of much else.

Do a quick Google image search and will bring up the Japanese styles most are of the saloon or the estate/tourer.some nice cars there.

I'll look into it. Another thing is I added my own cruise control to my auris, can you do the same with the avensis, thats one thing i most definitely miss

Not to the 1.8 petrol 1ZZ. If you had bought the 2 litre petrol or the diesels. The later Mk3 1.8 like mine, has cruise control fitted on all but the basic T2 model. Basically if the engine of a higher spec car has cruise control, then it may be possible to retro fit cruise control on a lower spec car with the identical engine. It depends if the lower spec car is purely a stripped down version of the higher spec car, and most of the cabling are present, plus the ECU has the facility.

When I bought my Avensis last year, my choice was the Avensis Mk2 1.8, Mk3 which I bought, and Honda Civic. The Auris (Mk1) is a little too small. I had a set budget and set requirements. The boot had to hold a folding bike with 26" wheels, like my Mk1 Avensis. The Civic boot failed on that. Then all the kit you get on the Mk2 versus the Mk3. I have cruise control, speed limiter, 6 speed geabox, 17" alloy wheels, and bluetooth (calls only). The Mk2 TR has electric folding mirrors, auto dim mirror, sat-nav and touch screen audio. It looses about 18 BHP to my car.

There are some personal mods you will make. I like to see them.
