Help needed - non electric passenger windows

I inherited my Toyota Avensis 2.0 Diesel car from my mother (2001 model) and my daughter rolled down one of the back passenger windows. As it happens, they are both experiencing the same problem.

The handle goes around and round and the window stays static.

Is this something i can fix? i did remove the door panel and i see the mechanism going up and down behind the sellotaped plastic, but i have no clue what to do. i did search the forums already to see if anyone else had this problem.

Thanks for your help in advance!

This is an easy job (for me). I have done a few on various models.

If the regulator still works, then the glass may have detached. If the regulator is not lowering or lifting the glass, the cable or gear has broken. A replacement part from a scrapper or eBay. This is a simple swap. getting the part is the problem.

Also the Mk1 is covered by the Haynes Manual.
