acceleration and smoke problems

My Toyota 2.0 d4d 2007 with 113,000 miles is playing up. Couple of weeks ago it was mot,d and serviced no problems other than brakes.

Now it has developed a problem where especially in 1sr and second when i put my foot downto pull away from a junction with low revs there is no acceleration for a few seconds. When it does pick up there is dark smoke from the exhaust. Drives fine apart from this problem.  Also if i accelerate hard i get the same dark smoke. Never used to smoke this much before. No noises at all.

How's the oil level? (Smoke has to be come from somewhere and better to check now than when the light comes on). Also may be worth checking the injectors are seated securely.
