Sooooo Gutted

So gutted...skidded on mud and hit a wall...the old girl is looking sorry for herself today and to top it all the insurance company think (without even seeing it) that it's a write off [emoji17][emoji17]

That is not a write-off in real world terms. Once the assessor has seen the car or photos, he would say that it repairable. I would be more concerned with the suspension and steering. Get that looked at!

Tbf the bloke who picked it up thought the same...I'm tempted to pay the recovery and get it fixed myself

The insurance company won't look at the car and think "Ah it's a scratch it can be fixed". They'll look at it and think "oooo, well our body shop says it's going to cost £600, but the car's only worth £500. It's a write off".

Like Konrad said get the steering and suspension checked. If thats fine then get it repaired yourself.

You going for a Mk2 1.8 in TR or T4 spec? These give you most of the toys at an affordable price. My friend Waqar had the estate version, until his was also written off.

I looked at buying one, but got my Mk3 Tourer. I would on go for diesel (2.0l only) if it is low mileage and service history. I prefer petrol anyway.

Thanks Konrad, seen a t3x 1.8 on a 56 plate, going to have a look

That is a good spec.

Here are the specs for the Avensis up to 2006 - http://www.lease2u.co.uk/brochures/CARS/TOYOTA/avensis.pdf

The specs carried on into the face lift, then later the the TR was added, which combined the T3-S and the T3-X. .

Ouch! poor car

Speaking as a driver of a car that has been hit 4 times by other drivers, we usually buy it back off the insurance company and get someone to sort out the bodywork. We do usually get someone to check it out first though, just in case the unseen damage is too severe

Got a few jobs to do but really pleased; it's in fantastic condition...

- paint the callipers (not red, just silver)

- minor scuff on bumper

- full service

- clay, polish and wax

- redex fuel treatment

-new wheel nuts (bit rusty)

- fix the lid on the centre console (won't stay shut, might transplant it from the old one)

It looks clean plus better spec than your old one. I would swap anything from your old one before the insurance get it.

Beat me to it, about swapping the best bits from the old car lads.

Great find.

Did you know that the engine of your old car, would make a good donor to an older oil burning car?

Yeah it's been really well looked after; spotless inside and it's even clean under the bonnet!

I didn't but for someone wanting bits or a seriously cheap and reliable car the old one would be a good buy...found a second hand wing for £30 on eBay so could be fixed...just seems a shame for it to be scrapped

Had a few bits off the old one today; mostly fixings and had the parcel shelf too. Also took the chrome tailpipe off, was in a state but came up pretty well...
