Emptying fuel tank of 1994 Estima

Hi, does anyone have any suggestions on emptying the fuel tank please? Our beloved car died a few weeks ago, very inconsiderately while almost full of diesel, and I would like to empty it before scrapping the car. All ideas welcome,  thanks!

(Just to avoid confusion, Lucida Estima is old car which needs emptying, Emina is replacement car)

There's a drain plug on the bottom of your tank (see attached pic Item No 77100A). One of the problems you get is dirt in the fuel, both from inside the tank - where sediment etc has settled over the years - and outside of the tank from rust, underseal etc. It's best to do it over a pit or on a ramp and be warned, it's a messy business. Fuel starts to flow out long before you have the plug completely unscrewed and it tends to spew all over the place. Make sure you have big enough containers I'd say 5 gallon minimum size, preferably larger. You're really better to strain it through a funnel with a fine gauze filter when draining and again when filling up your other vehicle. Dirty fuel can mean big trouble for your engine.

You can buy a siphon gadget with two hoses and a rubber bulb (or rattle device) from Halfords or similar which might work provided you can get the drain hose right down into the tank.

Another option, if you have an electric pump in the tank, is to disconnect the fuel outlet hose from the filter under the bonnet, place it in a suitable container and turn on the ignition. The electric pump will run and pump out the fuel. This method has the advantage that the fuel will be filtered before you collect it.
