Celica SR Gen 6 Emissions Troubles

Hi, I have a 1998 Celica SR which has been in the family since 2001 (so very much part of us).  in recent years we have had problems with emissions and getting through MOT.  This year it has failed outright on carbon monoxide content (2nd fast idle excessive 7.3.D.3 - if this means anything to you!!).  152K on clock.  It has had refurb on gearbox, new clutch and full exhaust system in the past two years but could not get through MOT this year even with yet another new cat and sensors being changed.  Garage saying needs a refurb engine or rebuild - has anyone had experience in this please.

Great news people.  Found a genuine Toyota mechanic who knew exactly what the problem was and it was NOT as i had been told by 3 other garages that I needed a rebuild!!  All done at a fraction of the cost and I am a very happy Generation 6 owner, hopefully for a fair few years to come

Just needed a clean and Lamda sensor (which had been done by other garage but they did not use genuine Toyota).  Knew deep down when I was driving her that the engine was still powerful and was questioning why I was being told a rebuild.  So happy to have a fantastic car that runs well, looks good and remains part of the family even though now 18 years old.
