2006 Avensis 1.8 Petrol - annoying alarms

I've read previously on this forum about dis-arming the annoying seat belt alarm. I sometimes carry a small case or box on the passenger seat and I get fed up with the alarm going off because the car thinks I've got a passenger. Will the dis-arming of the seatbelt alarm stop this from happening?

Also, during my travels, especially in the spring, summer and early autumn, I like to stop somewhere with a pleasant view to eat my sandwiches, while leave the radio on and the driver's door open to let in a cool draught. Will the car let me......will it heck! I have to put gaffa tape across the door switch to stop the alarm bells going off. So annoying.....it's my car and I can't turn off the alarm....great! Imagine buying a house with a doorbell with no way of turning it off, changing it or doing anything to it!  Does anyone know how to turn off the "don't open the door whilst the radio is on" alarm?

Thanks.

I don't know if your car is a facelift or a pre facelift model. But on pre facelift model you can disable the seatbelt alarm by sitting in drivers seat, first turn the ignition on and set the trip display to ODO. Then turn ignition off and back on, within 5 sec after turning the ignition back on, push and hold the trip button for 15 sec and then put on your seatbelt. After putting on your seatbelt, the display should say beep_on. Releasing or re pressing (i don't remember exactly) the trip button changes it to peep_off. Wait for a few sec, the ODO count should come back on and turn ignition off, all done. This will disable the alarm, but warning lights will remain funtional.

As for the radio and door open alarm, i had found a "sweet spot" in my ignition switch, where the radio is on and the door open alarm is off. Turn the ignition switch veeerrryyyy slowly, you will it.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. A simple factory fitted over-ride switch would be ideal, huh!

If I recall correctly, on my Avensis in order to have radio on I have to turn the ignition key once, while the door/key alarm goes on only when the ignition is in the off state.

As about the passenger seat alarm - this annoys me as well, so I got the habit to put any luggage in the car's boot, except of a small bag with documents/money/etc (also I found this recommendation in the car owner's manual).

I had this on another car if I had 2 or 3 bottles of Coke next to me. I didn't mess about with it so I just plugged the seat belt in and the alarm would stop.

So it looks like I'll connect the passenger seat belt all the time and put some gaffa (duct) tape over the door switch to make the car think the door is closed all the time. That should do it! Me - 1, Car - nil.

you can buy dummy belt clips for this which saves having the belt fixed all the time, up to you if it's worth £3. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-CREAM-SEAT-BELT-ALARM-BUCKLE-KEY-INSERT-PLUG-CLIP-SAFETY-CLASP-STOPPER-/322081252573
