RAV4 Mk2 - Reg O2 - tyre pressure help !!

Hey guys .

We've got an O2 registered RAV4 ( 2 door ) and I'm wondering what to have the tyre pressures set at for a road trip around Cornwall and Devon , just two adults and we well be doing around 800 miles, I'd guess .

I read somewhere that you can set them lower for a softer ride ( but lower mpg ) and higher for a harder , faster ride ( better mpg ) .

We'd prefer a lovely soft ride but I don't want to wear the tyres out unevenly ....

Any suggestions ??

I would stick in 30 in each tyre seems to work ok for me

If you are running the standard fit tyres and wheel, then the standard pressure would be my preference. If you have carry weight in the back, then the rear need to go up.

If you run higher than standard pressure:

sharper & lighter steering but perhaps a little twichy

sharper braking but also likely to lock up the tyres sooner

more bouncy ride but not noticeable change in mpg

tyre wear increase in the center

if you run lower than standard

heavier steering and more sluggish handling

brakes less sharp but lock up reduced

softer ride

increase edge tyre wear

provided you are within +/- 2psi of recommended pressures, it more a matter of preference
