Possible short regarding ignition

I have been fitting a universal downstream sensor unfortunately i left the ignition on and fused one of the wires. I am finding the car turns over but will not start , i thought if i reset the ecu this may stop the problem, i am thinking that the ecu has been affected and is not recognizing the key. I tried as suggested on the forum of removing the ecu-b fuse and pumping the brake i didnt disconnected the Battery whilst doing this. I am not sure if its the ecu but the car was running fine before.Has anyone any suggestions on this.. I am fearing i have fried the ecu but a freind says he would be surprised if this was the case. Thanks
