Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forum, to a Toyota, to Turbo and to Diesel cars, (well since a couple of months ago, sort of..)

Although I have been visiting this forum over the last couple of months, today marked the arrival of the V5 log-book after agreeing to take my mums '07 Auris T180, in a family/help sort of deal, so I thought I'd sign up on here properly; to go with the now official/proper ownership.

I'm a long time petrol head, mostly into the modifiying/retro cars scene - but recently I have been selling up over the last year so far; to fund buying property soon.

I sold my last daily driver to a good friend (to help his situation out a little) back at the end of April - then my mum lent me the Auris for daily duties before deciding I should have it, as its quite suitable for me and not for her any longer.

I have inherited an Auris that needs a bit of rescuing. The outside of it is tired, quite neglected looking for its (then) 37K mileage. The moment I fired up the car and drove it 1 mile home, I learned that it had lost its original Vaa-Vaa-Voom and felt pretty awful. Trip computer showed an average of 32 MPG. Perhaps this is why my mum wanted to give it away..

So googling 'Auris 2.2 T180 throttle response flat spot delay acceleration' brought me here and soon I had the Rick's T/SR180 EGR cleaning guide to hand and a can of BG244. I know that both my parents had been using the Auris just around town; so along with my 20 min dual carriage way mini-commute to work everyday and after carrying out the EGR clean up with BG244 additive - by the next day it felt right as rain again. By the end of the week after a reset, the Trip showed 44 MPG.

Since then it has been stellar, if a little dull. Just taken it through 40K mile mark. The appeal/novelty of Turbo boost is cool, although I miss being able to rev the engine out a bit. The engine makes a surprisingly non-diesel noise, and pulls really well. It has a bit of wolf in sheep's clothing about it, especially in this standard-look spec. The faces on some Audi/BMW drivers.. :-) I haven't picked up the 'Petrol' pump by mistake once. It has amazed me how big on the road it feels, for a small family car. It's a very mixed up car: quite mini MPV/pope-mobile like, but with these sporty intentions. I look at the older Corolla or the same gen Civic/Astra/Focus and think couldn't the Auris have been a bit sleeker, like they were.

Anywho. Some modifications planned. Not much, I have to look after the pennies. Will be posting away in Auris Club section soon. Some pics: EGR cleaning/MPG Trip results/40K mileage & 1st modification to come...
