Hi all,

thought I would try here as getting no replies at all in the verso section....

I'm new to having a Toyota, it's a Corolla verso 2.2 D4D TR, 56plate.

i have noticed when stopping at say a red light or the end of a road, the engine has a rather loud tapping sound to it ticking over in neutral and pulling away from a stand still.

is this the normal sound of a Toyota diesel??

if you imagine a constant tap tap tap tap tap tap tap.... The sound stays until revved to over around 1500rpm then the sound goes....

iv tried different driving styles and none seem to make a difference.

it seems worse once the engine is warm, definately then noticeable in neutral, slowing down around 10mph and under light load, before 2000rpm.

taking off in 1st gear sounds awful, I'm embarrassed every time I pull away :(

I have looked around engine with the cover off and it sounds to me like it is coming from the far right at the top of the engine in front of where the turbo sits...

im dreading it's an injector problem, is it likely this???

any advice or opinions would be great,

thanks

dan

Hi Danny. you bought this just recently, haven't you, and I don't think you ever answered my question about whether you have any service history with the car. Could be important to establish whether it's been looked after. The 2.2 engine is known to be a bit rattly but I understand your concerns, nobody likes the prospect of expensive repairs.

I'd suggest you loook at some other threads which might help you eg

Thanks for the reply, nice to know someone Atleast has read my topic and can see my frustration.

you were correct, just got the car last weekend.

looking over the history, it seems the car has been serviced every 12,000 miles roughly. The car has a stint between 2008 and 2010 where the car sat for 2 years, no idea why.

it had a major service in 2015, and has loads of paper work from Toyota inc egr clean, and brake fluid change, various bits and pieces done. Car now only has 62,000 miles on the clock...

so I would say it's been fairly well looked after.

i have enclosed a video of the engine noise so hope that will help people understand what's going on.

im pretty sure it's injector problems, just can't believe I didn't hear the noise when I test drove the car before buying.

any thoughts guys please let me know.

dan
