IQ problems

We currently have an Auris and we want to buy an IQ as a second car.  There is one particular car that I am going to look at in a couple of days, but I would prefer to have some more knowledge before I see it.  What problems should I be looking out for with the IQ?  Does anyone have a list?  I have had a look on the Internet, but I can't find anything useful.  Please help.

Hi.  Thanks for replying so quickly.  The IQ is a 2010 '60' plate car.

The Good/Bad section of the Honest John review is a starting point - http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/toyota/iq-2008/?section=good

Early cars were thought to be prone to EGR issues, which were actually to do with the exhaust manifold - Toyota announced a Voluntary Service Campaign earlier this year re the exhaust manifold:

One can use Toyota's Recall Checker to determine whether a vehicle as outstanding work due under either recalls or service campaigns - https://www.toyota.co.uk/caring-for-your-toyota/owners/recall-checker.json#/iframe/https%3A%2F%2Fforms.toyota.co.uk%2Frecall-checker%3F_ga%3D1.95340380.1182401313.1468524836

Check AC works and leave on during test drive. When you finish check footwells for any damp. Check sills for damage due to the car being too small for some service lefts. Any hesitation or lack of of power which will most likely be related to EGR clogging as above. Check steering wheel is straight as columns have been replaced on some from recalls. Listen for knock on cold start and rattles during operation, these are expensive fixes but not common. Listen for any whining on idle if you get a manual version. IQs are solid cars so you shouldn't have any problems.

The only problem i have with the iq is,

They dont make it anymore

If its any help, my 2009 iq3 1.33 is on 98+ thousand miles ,i've done  around 94 k of them, in the 6 years i've owned it,

And it just goes and goes, nothing has ever gone wrong, everything still works, it does 92 miles a day, i'd stake my life on it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I own a iQ since mid 2008 and I love it... I wish they will do a new electric iQ at reasonable price!

As they've ended production of the IQ for Europe and the Americas, I doubt whether an electric version will surface.

Only 98..........

I've just got back from a 4100mile round trip to Budva in Montenegro and back. Through the Bosnian mountains too. My car just keeps on going and going :-P

its just clicked over 176000 miles and guess what's gone wrong with it............. Nothing (well almost nothing)

The air con was working the hardest it ever has in the Croatian 40degrees so it leaked on my floor. A quick 5 minute fix with a piece of hose pipe and no more trouble.

So after 176 THOUSAND MILES I don't think that's bad going !!!!
