Not having taken them apart like you, but from what I see, its that you are adjusting the off car length of the driveshaft when replacing the boots so that the boot is not over or under stretched rather than actually changing the real length of the actual shaft - correct ?

Yes, that crossed my mind, mines see in the middle not stretched or under stretched.
