Yaris 1.8 SR steering knock at low speed

Hi All!

Proud owner of a Yaris 1.8 SR, it's my second yaris to date however not all is well in my Toyota world.

I have been experiencing a small knock (almost imperceptible) on the steering at low speeds on a diverse lock range. Took the car to Steven Eagell in Aylesbury where they advised me to replace the whole steering column at a whooping £1700!!!!

Apparently this is quite common issue with the Auris, Avensis and RAV4 but i haven't heard similar problems among the Yaris owners. I'm no expert but having to replace the whole steering column seems a bit overkill a suggests they haven't detect the problem probably (i could be wrong though).

Any suggestions? I'm told this could be the intermediate steering shaft. I will try to go to oxford to get a second opinion. I'm not a expert but this should be a faulty part not the whole system.

Thanks!

I have the same issue with my 2007 1.8 SR. Very pleased with the car.   If I adjust the steering wheel it stops for a while.  I have taken it to my local dealer and they told me it is probably the bushes that are worn in the steering column and the only way to cure it would be to replace the steering column.  They did advise me that it is not a MOT failure and is not dangerous.
