Hi - oil question on newly acquired D-4D Yaris

Hi! I recently bought a 1st gen 2005 Toyota Yaris d-4d and so far it's been a cracking little thing, especially for a first car.

After doing nearly 500 miles in my first week of owning it (yikes!) I had a question regarding the oil; which oil do I get?

I figured I should follow the manual's specification but does anyone have any pointers to high quality brands or types (fully/partial synthetic?) I am a car-mechanics newbie but am looking to DIY the oil business.

Should I get the car oil flushed? It was bought at 32000 miles and was well serviced every 9 months prior to ownership.

I forgot to mention that I don't know what oil it has now. Should I contact the trade seller to ask?
