Non-remote key problems

I recently bought my wife a 58 plate Auris - which came with one remote key (her key) and one non-remote key ('my key').  My key quite happily unlocks all doors and starts the car IF I was the last one to lock the car.  If my wife has locked the car - using her key - then my key will only unlock the front doors.  NB - the rear doors have kiddilocks turned on, which is why it's a royal pain if my wife has locked the car and I'm trying to get the kids in.

I've tried unlocking the rear doors using the unlock buttons on drivers arm rest - no joy.  Can hear the central locking working but no joy.  Don't particularly want to take the car to the dealer and get stung for a new key.  Anyone have any ideas?

My 2009 and 2012 Auris both came with just two remote keys - wonder if your non-remote key is a replacement and hence the difference in operating.

No magic bullets from me, but a couple of ideas.

My previous (non-Toyota) vehicle had a (deliberate, documented) difference in operation between key-locking and wireless locking. If the boot was locked with the key, it couldn't be unlocked wirelessly. Different key/wireless behaviours may not definitely indicate that there is a malfunction. You'd need someone with the same model to confirm if their's behaves the same (when they have rear-door childlocks activated). Have you tried to see what happens with the childlocks turned off?

Meanwhile, until you can get another replacement remote key, and program it to the car (and vice versa - I think there are relevant tutorials here), the simplest means of getting consistency looks like the 'remote' key user volunteering to forego the wireless functionality, and just use both keys as ... keys.

IF the tutorials here on key programming ARE relevant (I can't tell you, sorry), then you may find an appropriate uncut remote key blank cheaply on eBay (there are quite a few different types of key used by Toyota!) and be able to DIY rather than deal with a dealer.

My 14-plate Auris Excel TS has a totally different system (with keyless entry and start capability) and I've already gathered that adding an extra (brand new) remote to that system is a special-kit-needed task, while adding an extra remote that is second-hand is even more involved, to the extent of probably not being worthwhile.

So what year is your Auris Touring Sport - 2016 as per your profile, or 2014 as per your last post on this thread?

Please amend your profile.

My car is (as stated) a 14 plate.

My year of coming over to Toyota is 2016. Which I thought was what was expected in that box. If one had two Toyotas of different ages, what should one put there?

Only having the one, I'm happy to amend the profile info in the way you request.

My intent was to explain why I was unable to be more specifically helpful ...
