rav 4 loss of power

hi I have a rav 4 2001 diesel it drives perfect however if I accelerate hard the power drops and feels like it

will cut out then the engine management light comes on the limp mode kicks in then.  I turn it off and start up again back to

no warning light never no problems at full speed only changing through the gears

Hi there 

Had this problem on an Avensis 54 plate.

It was the EGR valve sticking. I took it off cleaned it and all back to normal. 

This valve recirculate exhaust gasses back in to the inlet manifold.
