Are the OEM discs made of any different metal than other makes? I suspect not. Non Toyota pads are available and using say Ferodo or other decent makes  would be more economical

Just the way I see it

DONT use Toyotas or any copied cheap rubbish disks dont last .   Replaced all my disks and pads with Brembos  what a difference all fitted and supplied £300.

Now my exchausted is going so now looking into quailty Stainless Steel ones.

I have Brembos discs and pads on the front and a Mintex set up on the rear. Cost me roughtly the same as Toyota would charge and they're twice as good

Yeah, you're better off getting the parts yourself IMHO; I had my pads changed by Toyota Jemca last October assuming they'd use proper Toyota parts, but found they'd used so-called Optifit parts, in this case cheap-***** Textar-branded pads which you can get for a fraction of the cost anywhere.
