Toyota problems

Hello guys,

I have a toyota prius 2011 and yestarday when I started my jurney I've noticed that i have lag in my acceleration unusual for me even when I switch to power mode the same thing. After i stoped the car I've noticed that the car doesent stop. I've switchedof the a/c and still the engine was working. I've tried to press the EV , the same. The Battery level in the dash bord indicated that the Battery is almost full. I switched of and on the engine few times and after it was back to normal i mean the electric Battery kicked in but still the EV doesn't work. When i am trying to pres it i receive (EV mode is not available) on the dash bord. After i started to drive but noticed that the engin keep accelerating even when i was braking. So it got me worried.  Let me know if you had similar problems with your Prius. Thanks

Best regards

It could be a fault, but it could just be a routine Battery realignment procedure that the Hybrid system does occasionally, particularly at higher mileages.  I've only experienced it a few times on a Gen 1 Prius after more than 100,000 miles (although the Gen one had neither ECO, EV or PWR modes).

If ti does enter this mode, it's best to let it finish in one go if possible.  It will charge the HV Battery until it it completely maxed out, enter a sort of uncommanded EV mode until the Battery returns to a normal level, then behave normally, usually for many 1,000s of miles.  The process can be provoked if the HV battery State of Charge has been allowed to drop very low (1 bar) for example by parking in Neutral for a length of time while in READY mode.

The one thing you said that makes me think it might not be this realignment process is that I don't recall it affecting acceleration though.

What do others think?

Hi Pete,

Thanks for replying.  I am in the car right now and it seams, like you said, that all it's back to normal. Even the EV option works just fine. I am still testing it with my obd2 to see if it has any fauls, but overall it'sjust fine. Thnak you

Best regards

Out of interest, if you don't mind my asking, what sort of mileage had the car done?
