Am I missed a Dipped Headlight Bulb on my Dashboard?

Spent most of today out in my Corolla, giving it a longer sustained run to make sure it's driving fine after changing the belts and various other bits. As it's September the sun has decided to go down sooner, so I drove it for the first time at night.

Looking at the dashboard, it needs a new bulb. However, I notice there is no dipped beam light on the dashboard either even though they're on. So I'm wondering did Toyota release this E11 without one or is it broke? And if so, where is it?

Here's two photos of it with and without the full beam light.

no, I don't believe there is a dipped beam indicator. The instrument cluster backlight itself acts as the indicator I suppose.

Interesting, it's just it comes on when you put the sidelights on, and then there's nothing to say you've got the dipped beams on then.

I'll probably know more when I take the cluster out to change the bulbs behind them. I might as well change all of them, I can't imagine light bulbs last much longer than 18 years!

I always thought that if the high beam indicator is not lit then its dipped, ie no indicator.

I know but the dashboard will be lit up when you put the side lights on, and usually (in the cars I've had before) there's been an indicator to say you've got your dipped beams on. I didn't think cars would be released without that light on the dashboard, hence the question.

Let us know if there is a indicator when remove the cluster.......I guess I never really thought there was one and just got used to it.

Will do. I'm changing the thermostat this weekend and was hoping to do the dashboard too so I'll let you know then.

Ok, I just went to the car, held a torch to the cluster, I can see lots of hidden icons, I could not see separate icon for the dipped light. Its either no inidicator means dipped or....the indicator for hi beam changes colour....ie hi=blue and maybe green for dipped?

I did what you did, and I can't see anything. The icons for the handbrake etc are very well hidden, so I can't actually see them.

I'll take it off tomorrow or saturday when I change the backlights and see if its there or not.

Amongst the cars I've owned and driven a dipped beam indicator is usually the exception rather than the rule in my experience. It seems more common on French cars for some reason, Citroens, Peugeots and Renaults often seem to have a bulb for dipped beam, but I don't recall any of our Toyotas, or other makes, having them particularly..

Edit:I think a Skoda Octavia I used to own also had one BTW!

That's so weird. I've had Peugeot and Honda's before this Toyota and they all include that bulb. Likewise the Vauxhall, Seat, Rover Land Rover, Mercs that I've driven have had them on.

Still, if it doesn't come with one I won't worry about it. I just thought if it did have one and it was blown I could change it while I changed the backlight - which I still haven't been allowed to do yet. Aparently I needed to do the ironing :(

Perhaps I just haven't been very observant with the cars I've driven! But, certainly it seems normal for Toyotas not to have one.
