2015 Yaris Hybrid Multimedia - no traffic information

I realised the other day that I have never ever received any traffic announcements on my "Go" multimedia system while listening to Radio 2 on DAB. I checked that the  option is ticked in the settings but it does not appear to work. I though it was perhaps just a DAB feature, but we collected a new Mini for my wife on Wednesday and that receives DAB traffic announcemnts all the time. Anyone know if it is just something I am missing or is this a fault (Feature?) of the Yaris Hybrid?

It will only work on FM, that feature does not work on DAB. I spent a long time with Toyota trying to sort this for a customer, you can't, it is not enabled on DAB

Thank you, that is what I was beginning to think. Bit naughty though as the manual says it works and there is a check box to switch it on! Disappointing for Toyota.

The post from Parts-King makes this appear to be Toyota's fault! It is NOT!!

The only Traffic Information station that ever broadcast over DAB was closed down in 2011 due to budget cuts. See this link...

There are NO DAB traffic announcement broadcasts available in the UK currently.

The only head units capable of giving you traffic announcements (TA) are the ones capable of switching to FM and back to DAB to do it... AFAIK, the Toyota head units are not capable of doing this (in software). TA on FM stations works fine however.

eyemdee: You wife's Mini does not receive "DAB Traffic Announcements", it receives RDS initiated traffic announcements over FM which it switches over to seamlessly from DAB to FM and back again to achieve.

Thank you for your comprehensive explanation. I think the Mini actually receives both at the same time as the DAB programme/song information remains on the screen with the Local Radio Station in a band across the top.

Right. That makes good sense actually. There is no technical reason why this can't be done in every DAB head unit! Just requires two active tuners, that's all, and double tuners are available as a single chip device these days...
