Demo i am sorry too to hear ( well alright then read  ) your plight, sadly you have no rights at all until you are established, which one good reason these days I would ask about a probation period, I have been made redundant before with about 20 minutes notice, basically pack up and bogg off, I was out of work with no money due to previous self employment for 10 weeks, with mortgage etc.

I would ask that they give you a reference that way you will not have any breaks in your employment.

Out of interest are they a big type company or someone small, maybe a bit of name and shame, i personally would never deal with someone that treated their staff in such a shoddy fashion.

I hope you get sorted mate, get your cv polished and get it out there.

Good luck eh :group-cuddles:

Sorry to hear about this :o I could only imagine how you must feel like. I'm currently in the same job for 18 years now and i'm really peed off with it all. I haven't had a pay rise for 3 years now and i'm in 2 minds to chuck the whole thing in.

Still hope that you find a job really soon as i know how tough it must be with having to pay a mortgage and the money isn't coming in.

GOOD LUCK GIRL :group-cuddles:

Real sorry to hear your bad news Angel Shocked, I am. I can't see how they'd do that to you. You seem such a bright, efficient and cheerful person, I know that you would be an asset to any Company. I always read your posts coz. I know that I will be interested & enjoy them.

With apersonality & ability like yours, you won't be unemployed for long.

Good Luck & best wishes

Have a feeling I might be out of a job soon too :(

Hey DA, The same thing happened to me last week, I am tired of worrying about where the next money is coming from, so decided to go back to college for one year then on to uni, to study nursing.

Its a pain in the  :censor:

and I know how you are feeling. But stick with girl and dont loose the plot.  :group-cuddles:

Ash.

I have been thinking of that myself Asha, studying nursing, but I just dont think we can afford to, if you know what I mean....

Besides I am already doing a p/t degree so I dont wanna overdo the old studying! :D

Have you completed any of your degree units? If so you may be able to transfer the points across to help towards a nursing degree (not sure though as nursing may be a bit specialised).

It's pants when you lose your job, but I think considering what you have said you may have been lucky to get away with being laid off. I'm sure lots here can give you examples of people being sacked for the most stupid of reasons because their face didn't fit (happened to a guy in my office). Better to be laid off than have a blemish on your record for being sacked.

I just hope you find something else soon. If it was me I'd go to Uni and study for a while. Definitly consider the Nursing, financially it may be hard but once you qualify you'll be laughing. Although nurses are always complaining about not getting paid enough my partner has always earned more than me and I've never heard of a nurse being laid-off or being made redundant.

Bad luck mate, You are not alone, I am being chucked on the scrapheap sometime in the next 2 months (probably with no notice). Don't know what to do, maybe go back in the forces (thats a good idea at the moment, not :o ) but it's all I know other than AS400 which as you IT people will know is now well and truly obsolete. Chin up Demonic, always works out in the end :)

Thats the thing - I think I have been sacked - the post isnt being made redundant, they just dont think I am suited to the job therefore are "letting me go"!

I dont like the term sacked, but in a nutshell I was dismissed so am pretty peed off that that will be on my record with them, but as far as I'm concerned I did everything I could, I worked hard, but obviously that wasnt good enough for them.

I mean, I suppose at least it wasnt for gross misconduct or anything like that and I know some similar recruitment consultants I have visited have been really interested in me for similar roles at their establishments, so just gotta see how things go...

I am seriously thinking of taking it further, as I was given no warnings, I was given a review about 2 months ago where my manager told me what I needed to do and as far as I'm concerned I did it, so I dont see the reason why they think my performance was poor. Nowhere along the line did she tell me "If you dont pull your finger out, your fired"

So if anything, I just want some answers so I know what exactly I did that was so wrong! :ffs:

ps. I don't think you did anything wrong. If it was 1 day before your work up period then I reckon they decided AFTER they took you on that they only wanted a temp. (I am very cynical and untrusting, though)There are so many rules and regs to protect the worker but the company will always "Find a way", these regs are mostly worthless. In my most humble opinion of course!

Yeah, I've been told its something that happens regularly as during the probationary period they can do pretty much whatever they like...

I'm just gonna count my blessings, as few as they are, that I have gotten out of that company, if they can treat their staff like that!

Still waiting for that call though "DA would you like a job with us" kinda call!

Maybe next week eh? :(

I can't believe you will have any trouble getting further work with sound as400 skills, I feel most of this would be transferable might mean a little drop back in wages, I often see AS400 being specced in job descriptions.

I think the market is a lot more depressed than folks realise, personally.

I am looking for a new job and although I don't have any tickets or qualifications, I do have good TCP/IP skills and LAN & WAN skills, general computing skills with a good grounding of electronic skills too, with servicing experience but I can't even get a sniff of a job

I have been told that i am either too experienced or not focussed enough in the area i aspire, which is something IT based.......but not actually working with computers i fancy something that is computer based involving the interfacing of equipment with computers and networking......anyway I must put my anorak away

Here is too all of us with jobs we enjoy getting paid favourable sums of money
