After the weather we have had, and getting soaked trying to turn the key in the door of my Corolla, I've decided it's time to fix the remote control that came with the car.

I bought a CR2016 Battery for it, and I popped the case open and the old Battery just fell out. I put the new one in but it seems loose. I also don't see anything holding the Battery in from the top. To me it seems broken, but I could be wrong. Im not adverse to soldering - I'm actually soldering one of these batteries to an old 1992 laptop tomorrow - so I can fix it physically.

So, I'm just wondering am I right to think there is something missing at the top? Also, do I need to reprogram the fob? It's for a 1998 E11 Corolla.

Heres a photo of what it is I have.

Hi Michael

The Battery holder is broken and that would explain why the Battery falls out. If you are handy with a soldering iron it shouldn't be a difficult  fix.

Maybe you can find a similar remote on eBay and use the Battery holder from that.

Thought as much! Am I right to think that the missing clip/wire touches those 3 pads on top of the Battery?

i might look for a key fob for it. I've got an old motherboard from a computer with a holder on it I could canablise, but if a replacement fob is easier then I'll do that.

Hmmm.....I don't think its broken as such, the +ve is at the bottom and -ve is the sides as per your pic. There is a prong at the bottom (gently lift it up a bit)and there is another on the side for the -ve (marked red), gently bend them a bit so that they are pushing the Battery to make contact, there's nothing on the top I don't think.
