Noticed the top quater of fuel gauge drops much slower than the other segments

The fuel gauge in the Auris (both generations) and in some other models, operates in a nonlinear way, so typically when the tank is full, the first segments take longer to extinquish than the final segments. You'll soon get used to it. The following provides a good illustration of its operation;
