IS remote central locking on same circuit as when you use key?

Help! I lost my remote key but have the spare. BEfore losing it, the remote key worked the central locking fine. However, the spare key used in driver door only opens the driver door not hte rest of the doors. Went to get a new remote key from an auto keys place and have got the key which is chipped etc, but they said they are unable to programme the remote bit because my central locking is not working. They suggested checking the fuse. HAve done this and both fuses are fine. Any ideas?

If you could answer each point I might be able to help?

1) You originally had two keys, 1x with central locking buttons (which you lost) and 1x without?

2) Have the keys place cut you a new key and programmed the transponder so that it now unlocks the doors (using the blade) and starts the car?

3) You still have the spare key and this still works (i.e. they haven't took the blade and/or transponder from this and put them into the 'new' key)?

4) This new key has buttons but currently they do nothing?

Thank you Jason - it would be amazing if you could help me.

In answer to your questions...

1) Yes

2) Yes (though it only unlocks the door you put it in, not all of them in one go)

3) Yes the spare key still works (but as above doesn't work the manual central locking, only unlocks the door you turn the key in.

4)Yes the new key has buttons but they don't do anything. The keys place said that they couldn't programme it because the spare key didn't work the central locking (ie they think there's a problem with the central locking on my car. However, the central locking worked fine with the last remote key).

Mmmm...  on mine, if I unlock the passenger door with the blade then the drivers door stays locked but if I unlock the drivers door with the blade then the passenger door does unlock too.  If yours doesn't then I fear the locksmiths might be right and your central locking has failed.  It's just completely bazaar that this should co-inside with you loosing the remote key.   How about if you sit in the car and operate the plunger to lock/unlock the drivers door. Does the passenger one not move as well?

No. Operating the plunger in the drivers door does not operate the passenger one. It is strange. And when the keys place had given up, when I started the engine to drive away, all the doors locked automatically. Then when I turned the engine off they unlocked. I did this twice, then went into ask them about it. When they tried it didn't do it and hasn't done it since. Really annoying though as I've had to pay them the £125 for the key even though they couldn't programme it. So now I have two keys but still can't get into the boot of the car!!

Yes, I can see how annoying this would be.  It sounds to me like you have a faulty connection in the central locking circuit somewhere which might be quite tricky to find,

However, it wouldn't harm to try and put the central locking into programming mode to see if that 'resets' something. Follow my guide down to step 10 and if you're really lucky the locks will close and open twice which would be a very good sign. If so, carry on to the end to try and program in the new key.  If the locks don't move though - then it looks like you will need to speak to a main dealer about it
