Any advice on how to fix a Blower that only works when it's turned up full. I can put up with it but it's so noisy. Cheers.

Hi Phil,

Do you mean you can't hear the blower, or is it making a noise but you can't feel any air coming out until the blower is on full?

....or do you mean that you only feel any heat when it's turned up full (fan speed and/or temp setting)?

Normal that means the control resister has failed. I don't have anymore info on this for the Avensis, but the resister and control adjusts the power between the off and full on.

The following video may give you an idea:-

I will get more info when I have time.

Thanks Konrad for that.

I have been having this problem for about the last 3 or 4 years on my 54 plate D4D, but have just learned to live with it. I certainly would not be renewing it  at the prices quoted by the chap in the video. However, I might have a go at repairing it....IF it is easy to get at. Does anybody know if its buried behind the dash, or is it easy to get at somewhere else?

This is what the resist looks like. It is a matter of removing the cabin filter then motor housing. I am not sure how involved that is, but I did a Renault Grand Scenic and managed to change the resister pack without dismantling the dashboard as described in most YouTube videos. Saved time that way.
